How Do PDO Mono Threads Work?
PDO Mono Threads are made of polydioxanone. This biodegradable material has been safely used in surgery for over 50 years. We meticulously insert these threads into your skin using fine needles. These threads triggers a process known as neocollagenesis: where your body creates new collagen.
Collagen is a protein that provides structure, elasticity, and firmness to your skin. With age, collagen production decreases, leading to sagging skin, wrinkles, and an aged appearance. PDO mono threads counteract this by providing a scaffold of collagen to your skin.
Once inserted, these threads create an immediate support structure that lifts and tightens the skin. Over the next 6 months, the threads gradually dissolve through hydrolysis. This process is where water molecules break down the threads which are then naturally removed from the body.
While in your skin, the threads continuously stimulate collagen production. This enhances skin texture, elasticity, and firmness. Your PDO mono thread treatment starts with a comprehensive consultation. After this, we apply numbing cream to the treatment area to minimise discomfort.
Once numb, we clean your skin, and then carefully place the mono threads beneath the skin.
After the threads are inserted, we apply an antiseptic balm, and you’ll then need to use a cold compress to reduce swelling and redness.
When PDO mono threads are done with appropriate anaesthetic, discomfort is very little.
The treated area may have slight discomfort for a few days, which can be treated with over-the-counter pain relief and an ice pack.
PDO mono threads are broken down over 6 months.
However, the collagen they produce can last over 5-7 years.
To prepare for your PDO mono threads, follow these guidelines:
7 days prior to treatment:

24 hours prior to treatment:
- Avoid alcohol consumption and intense exercise.
On the day of treatment:
- Remove all makeup before your appointment.
The area treated with PDO mono threads will feel tender to touch for a few days. After your treatment, avoid touching your face and excessive facial expressions for 24-48 hours. It’s also improve to keep your skin clean, and use a cold pack to reduce swelling.
We also recommend avoiding alcohol and heat-related activities (like saunas and steam rooms) for a few days.
PDO mono threads are classified as a safe treatment.
The most common risks of PDO mono threads include:
