So, now that you’ve undergone anti-wrinkle injections, you’ll want to ensure that your result looks great for as long as possible.

Here at Cosmetic Connection, we believe that patient education is one of the most important parts of your treatment journey. While the procedure may be minor and non-surgical, it is vital that you know how to make the most of your treatment by carefully adhering to the aftercare instructions for your anti-wrinkle injections.

Following the anti-wrinkle injections aftercare is an effective way to achieve and maintain a great and long-lasting result.

What should I avoid after anti-wrinkle injections?

Until the day after your anti-wrinkle injections, you should avoid:

    • Applying makeup
    • Lying down with pressure on your face (try to sleep on your back)

For the first 24 hours after anti-wrinkle injections, you should avoid:

    • Intense exercise
    • Excessive alcohol
    • Smoking

How to reduce swelling after anti-wrinkle injections

Here are some great ways you can minimise any swelling from your anti-wrinkle injections:

    • Avoid hot environments until the swelling has resolved. This includes hot showers, saunas and sitting out in the sun.
    • Avoid touching, scratching or picking at the skin of your full face.
    • Gently apply a wrapped ice pack intermittently (10 minutes on, 10 minutes off) for the first 4 hours after your anti-wrinkle injections.

How to reduce bruising after anti-wrinkle injections

If you are worried about bruising from your anti-wrinkle injections, consider following these steps:

    • Avoid excessive alcohol for 24 hours
    • Avoid intense exercise for the first day
    • Gently apply a wrapped cold pack intermittently for the first few hours after your anti-wrinkle injections (be careful not to apply any pressure).

If you have bruising after your anti-wrinkle injections, you can cover it with makeup the day after your treatment.

What to expect in the first few months after anti-wrinkle injections

You can look forward to enjoying an improvement in your appearance 2 weeks after your anti-wrinkle injections. While the effect will start to work as early as 3 days after the treatment, it takes 14 days to reach full effect.

The result will then gradually wear off over the following 3-4 months depending on the area treated, and how much product was injected.

Most patients revisit anti-wrinkle injections every 3-4 months to maintain their result. Despite some common myths, anti-wrinkle injections will not make you develop wrinkles faster if you decide to stop getting treatment in the future. In fact, they not only give an immediate improvement in your visible wrinkles, they also slow down the development of deeper, more permanent ones.

Are there any side effects with anti-wrinkle injections?

All cosmetic medical procedures have potential side effects.

When performed with skill, caution and care, anti-wrinkle injections are categorised as a low-risk procedure. You can reduce the risk of side effects by following proper anti-wrinkle injection aftercare.

While it is unlikely, some anti-wrinkle injection side effects that you may experience include:

    • Skin redness that will gradually improve in the first few days.
    • Bruising which has about a 5% risk and can be covered with makeup.
    • Temporary headaches when your forehead or around the eyes have been treated.
    • Slight result asymmetry in the first 2 weeks as some treatment areas may take faster than others.

When anti-wrinkle injections have been used on the forehead and around the eyes, there is also a remote risk of temporary brow and eyelid heaviness. There is also a very low risk of brow hitching (known as spocking). If this does occur it is very easy to correct with a quick touch up treatment.

Why is anti-wrinkle injections aftercare important?

No matter if it’s your first anti-wrinkle treatment or your hundredth, following the anti-wrinkle injection aftercare is very important.

Following these aftercare instructions for anti-wrinkle injections is the best way to care for your new look, reduce the chance of side effects and prolong your result.

While these aftercare steps may seem minor and trivial, not following them may compromise your result.

We want you to achieve the best result possible and love your new look, so please, take care.

Anti-wrinkle injections for smooth, wrinkle-free skin

Here at Cosmetic Connection, anti-wrinkle injections are one of our most popular treatments, and a favourite among our clinical team.

It is a great option to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles affecting your face, and preventing the development of deeper, more permanent wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections also have other amazing benefits. They can lift your eyebrows, reduce a gummy smile, slim bulky jaw muscles and treat excessive sweating.
