    A common enquiry we have here at Cosmetic Connection is whether it is safe to get cosmetic injectables like anti-wrinkle and dermal filler when pregnant or breastfeeding. Often, it’s women who have been getting treatments for years, and want to know if they need to avoid such treatments in the interest of their baby.

    Anti-wrinkle injections when pregnant or breastfeeding

    When using anti-wrinkle injections for cosmetic purposes, the doses are very low. There is minimal chance of the product being absorbed throughout your body, and the particles are unlikely to pass into your breastmilk. However, when medications are approved for use, they are given a classification based on their safety for use in people who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Anti-wrinkle injections fall under the B3 category, meaning the risk to humans (mum and baby) is unknown. Studies in animals showed that administering botulinum toxin can cause foetal damage.

    Dermal fillers when pregnant or breastfeeding

    In the case of dermal fillers, evidence in pregnant and breastfeeding women is also lacking. For this reason, ethical clinics will always err on the size of caution and avoid treating pregnant and breastfeeding women with dermal fillers.

    If you have dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections and later find our you’re pregnant, don’t worry. Data shows that in such cases their have been not measurable impacts.
