Anti-wrinkle injections are also known as ‘wrinkle relaxers’, ‘wrinkle reduction’ and ‘wrinkle removal’.

While anti-wrinkle injections are considered the holy-grail of cosmetic medicine, the biggest drawback is that within 3-4 months the result has worn off. This leaves many people asking what they can do to make their anti-wrinkle injections last longer. And luckily, there are some simple strategies that can increase anti-wrinkle longevity.

What is the average longevity of anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections take 2 weeks to reach their full effect. From this point, they then gradually wear off over time. Usually, it takes 3-4 months for the effect to wear of in its entirety. As the effect slowly wears off, you’ll gradually notice a return of your wrinkles.

How to increase the longevity of anti-wrinkle injections

Here are the things that affect the longevity of your anti=wrinkle injections.

Dose

The more anti-wrinkle product injected, the longer your result will last. There are of course limits to this. Everyone has a ceiling dose, where even if you inject more product, the longevity won’t increase (it’ll just cost you more money and increase the risk of side effects).

Precision

Injections done with more precision increase the amount of anti-wrinkle product that reaches the target nerve endings. This gives a longer lasting result for a given dose, and is why it pays to go to an experienced, doctor-led cosmetic clinic. Experts can achieve more using less product, saving you money, and reducing the risk of side effects.

Consistency

Being consistent with your treatments can increase the longevity of your anti-wrinkle results over time. As the longevity increases, you can either reduce the dose used, or increase the interval between your anti-wrinkle appointments, meaning you get better value.

Prevent immunity by using a pure product

The biggest killer of anti-wrinkle longevity is when you develop immunity. This renders anti-wrinkle treatments essentially useless, and you’ll need to stop getting treatments for a period of time (sometimes over 2 years). Avoiding immunity is key. How do you do this? There are a number of anti-wrinkle brands, with one being highly pure. This product has the lowest chance of causing an immune response, and therefore it makes sense to use this wherever possible.

With age, longevity will decrease

As we age, our skin becomes thinner and weaker, and begins to sag. Wrinkles develop, albeit much more slowly if you’ve kept up your anti-wrinkle treatments. You’ll find that over time you simply can’t achieve the same results compared to your younger days. We need to be more conservative to avoid side effects like brow heaviness, and your skin will be much more prone to wrinkling with smaller amounts of movement.

In anticipation of the above, we always advocate looking after your skin by using quality skin care products, sun protection, and having dermal treatments like peels and needling.
