How anti-wrinkle injections are used in facial sweating treatment
Sweating is a mechanism the body uses to regulate its temperature. Sweating cools the body by when it is evaporated by drawing heat away from the skin.
Excessive sweating is a problem where the body produces sweat, even when you’re at normal temperature. Certain medical conditions can cause excessive facial sweating. These include thyroid dysfunction and hormonal conditions, but other people have idiopathic sweating, with no identifiable cause.
The compound used to soften wrinkles has a secondary effect that switches off sweat glands. It does this by interrupting the signals they receive from the nerves. We can therefore use anti-wrinkle injections to treat facial sweating, especially on the forehead, brow and upper lip.

Understanding Excessive Facial Sweating
Excessive facial sweating is a medical condition that’s clinically called facial hyperhidrosis. This describes overactive sweat glands.
It’s relatively common, affecting just under 5% of people.
Sweating is a way for our body to regulate temperature. In hyperhidrosis, sweating occurs even when you aren’t hot.
Craniofacial hyperhidrosis is the scientific name for excess facial sweating. It can affect your head, scalp, and face.
The problem with excessive facial sweating is that its visible for everyone to see. This can leave you feeling self-conscious in social situations.

There are two types of facial hyperhidrosis:

Excessive sweating injections block the communication between nerves and sweat glands. They do this by stopping the release of acetylcholine from the nerve ending, which normally tells the glands to produce sweat.
By using anti-sweat injectables (the same as anti-wrinkle), we can stop acetylcholine release, and effectively turn off your sweat glands.
During your consult, we assess the affected areas to map out the treatment site. We can also use a starch-iodine test to confirm the areas responsible for your sweating.
