Sagging skin

Have you noticed your skin starting to sag?

Saggy skin develops with age and causes a loss of the defined facial contours of youth. It can be confronting to see the person looking back at you in the mirror with jowls, skin folds, and heaviness.

While surgery is an option, there are other more convenient, affordable and easier ways to treat sagging skin.

Cause & concerns

Loss of facial fat

Ageing-related facial fat loss leaves your skin unsupported. The results in sagging skin, and typically affects the areas around your mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines), and jawline (jowls).

Loss of collagen

We lose approximately 1% of our collagen annually from our early 20’s. Collagen loss leaves our skin weaker, and more prone to sagging.

Loss of elastin

Elastin gives your skin elasticity. As it is lost with age, your skin becomes less resilient, adopting a thin, flabby quality.

Treatment Options

Liquid facelift

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical treatment to combat sagging affecting most areas of your face and neck.

Collagen stimulators

Collagen stimulating injections are a convenient and effective way to both restore volume loss and improve skin quality.

This dual action makes them a popular choice to treat sagging skin.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers restore facial volume, helping to improve the appearance of sagging.

Thread lifting

Thread lifting is a minimally invasive treatment that repositions sagging facial skin.

It is typically used in conjunction with volume replacing treatments to restore more youthful facial contours.

Sagging skin is a common visible sign of ageing that affects most areas of your face.

With age, a loss of facial fat, collagen and elastin result in the decent of your skin to sag below it’s normal position. This creates a heavy appearance, and results in a loss of youthful facial contours.

Sagging skin most commonly affects the skin around your mouth, along your jawline, your brows and upper eyelids, and your neck.

Sagging skin results from three natural ageing-related changes:

    1. Loss of facial fat leaving your skin unsupported
    2. Loss of collagen causing your skin to be thinner and weaker
    3. Loss of elastin giving your skin a flabby quality

While surgery is the most effective way to remove skin that is sagging, not everyone is ready or prepared for the risk, cost and downtime.

To treat sagging skin without surgery, a combination of treatments that restore volume, collagen and elastin, and that tighten and reposition skin are recommended.

Often referred to as non-surgical face lifting, combining dermal filler, collagen stimulating injections, and lifting threads can achieve natural yet noticeable improvements in sagging skin.
