They develop as your skin loses collagen and elastin, and causes your smile to look aged, and wrinkled.

Cause & concerns

Loss of collagen and elastin

Decreasing levels of skin collagen and elastin are inevitable with age. This results in weaker, looser skin that is more prone to wrinkling when you smile.

Facial volume loss

As you age you lose supportive facial fat and bone. Your skin is left unsupported, giving a sagging, wrinkled appearance that worsens when you smile.

Smoking and sun damage

Cigarette smoke and the sun’s UV rays accelerate skin ageing, causing premature smile lines and wrinkles at a younger age.

Smile lines are the wrinkles that form around your mouth.

As your skin weakens with age, it is more prone to forming creases when facial muscles bunch your skin when you smile.

While smile lines are normal, most people think it makes their smile look unattractive, and ages them.

Smile lines are primarily caused by a loss of skin collagen and elastin, and decreasing facial volume.

This combination leaves your skin loose and unsupported, and prone to wrinkles.

When you smile, the skin around your mouth bunches, and when unsupported, forms smile line wrinkles.

Smile lines can be treated in a number of ways depending on their cause and severity.

The goal of treatment is to improve skin quality and support, making it less prone to wrinkling when you smile.

We achieve this using various treatments such as smile line dermal fillers, collagen stimulating injections, and skin boosters to restore hyaluronic acid.

Smile lines are not treated with botox. As botox works by relaxing muscles, treating smile lines this way will prevent you from smiling.

Treating smile lines is a simple process.

After confirming your suitability, your skin will be numbed, cleaned and marked.

We then carefully treat your smile lines, often using a combination of dermal filler and collagen stimulators. This process generally takes 10 minutes.

Once complete, you can resume most activity. There is usually only slight redness and swelling, and you can reduce this using a cold compress.
