Lip filler has been around for decades and one of the most commonly asked questions is how big your lips will be after filler. The size of your lips after receiving lip filler will depend on the amount of filler used and your individual anatomy. It is important to have realistic expectations about the results of lip filler treatment and to have a thorough consultation with a qualified and experienced provider before undergoing any procedure.

Everyone’s lips are different sizes, different shapes and have different types of lip tissue. During the consultation, your provider will assess your individual needs and discuss your treatment goals with you. They will also explain the potential risks and side effects of the treatment and help you determine the right amount of lip filler for your desired results.

Most lip filler syringes come in a 1ml size. For some perspective, a measured teaspoon is roughly 5ml, although most fillers will expand slightly after injection as they hydrate. The choice of lip filler and the volume injected will depend on your natural lips and your treatment goals.

It is generally recommended to start with a small amount of filler and gradually increase the amount if desired, as this allows for a more natural-looking result and minimises the risk of complications. People who are chasing larger lips and who have denser lip tissue often have a thicker lip filler, while those opting for a more conservative approach and who want to improve lip hydration are more suited to a finer lip filler product.

Some amount of swelling will occur after lip filler which will make your lips look larger than they will once the result settles. While most swelling subsides in a few days, you should wait 2-4 weeks before assessing the final result. It is important to remember that lip filler is not a permanent treatment and the results will gradually fade over time, so touch-up treatments may be necessary every 6-24 months to maintain the desired results.

No matter whether you are looking for a more pronounced increase in the size of your lips, or a more subtle refinement, an experienced practitioner who performs lip filler treatments regularly will be able to provide you with the best advice and guidance to help you achieve the results you desire safely and effectively.
